The food and beverage industry (F&B) is one of the main drivers of non-oil processing industry growth, supported by abundant natural resources and a continuously increasing domestic demand.

In 2022, the F&B industry's GDP grew by 4.90% with a contribution of 38.35%, the largest contribution to the non-oil processing industry's GDP. Moreover, in 2022, the F&B industry was among the top five industries with the highest export contribution, valued at USD 48.61 billion.

"As one of the priority industries in the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, the acceleration of Industry 4.0 implementation in the F&B industry is estimated to be able to increase the potential value of output and industrial labor productivity by up to 30%," said the Director-General of Agro Industry (IA) of the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika in Jakarta, Sabut (18/3).

To support this, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has issued Ministerial Regulation No. 21 of 2020 concerning the Measurement of Industrial Readiness Levels in Transforming Towards Industry 4.0 as a guide for industry readiness in conducting the Industry 4.0 transformation.

Earlier, the IA Director-General attended the Digital Transformation Media Gathering event of PT. Lautan Natural Krimerindo in Supporting Making Indonesia 4.0 in Surabaya (15/3). On that occasion, Putu appreciated PT. LNK for its digital transformation of Industry 4.0. The company is also one of the Lighthouse Industry 4.0. This means that PT. LNK is a pilot industry in the implementation of Industry 4.0 for other industries in Indonesia.

PT. LNK is a manufacturer of F&B raw materials, mainly using the spray drier process. Its vision to become a world-class company has encouraged PT. LNK to apply digital transformation, also as a form of the company's commitment to sustainable innovation. In 2021, Kemenperin awarded the Indonesia Industry 4.0 Readiness Index (INDI 4.0) Award to PT. LNK, making the company one of the Lighthouse Industry 4.0 in 2022.

Director of PT. LNK, Hendrik Gunawan, stated that as a company that applies sustainable innovation, LNK has shown rapid progress as a result of digital transformation. "The National Lighthouse Industry 4.0 Award given to LNK certainly fuels our spirit to continue the process towards a better direction," said Hendrik.

The implementation of digital transformation by LNK has been able to provide various positive benefits, including reducing product defects by up to 70%, increasing production capacity by 20%, increasing sales by 43%, and reducing energy ratios by 14%.

Chairman of the Indonesian Food and Beverage Producers Association (GAPMMI), Adhi S. Lukman, added that the F&B industry in the world shows a rapid development trend. Indonesia has great potential to compete in the industry. Therefore, digital transformation is needed as one way to compete globally. "PT. LNK, as a member of GAPMMI, shows great progress towards digital transformation. Hopefully, this can be an inspiration for other food and beverage producers," said Adhi.
